Rapper Waka Flocka Flame, known for his songs “No Hands” and “Hard In Da Paint,” will perform with DJ Whoo Kid. ![]() Five years later, they are currently topping the charts with their hit song, “Once In A While.” Timeflies, an American pop band, was started by Rob "Rez" Resnick and Cal Shapiro in a college dorm room in 2011. Passion Pit, an electro-pop band whose second album, "Gossamer," debuted on Billboard’s Top 200 chart, is best known for its hit songs “Carried Away,” “Sleepyhead” and “Take a Walk.” “Gator Growl has been moving in a whole new direction over the past few years, and we think these acts encompass the new energy and vibe that we want to put on at the event.” “We wanted to find up-and-coming artists with a wide reach,” said Robert Felder, homecoming general chairman. Unlike past years, the concert will feature four performers spotlighting a variety of music genres: Passion Pit, Timeflies, Waka Flocka Flame, and Maddie & Tae. Flavet Field will overflow with students, alumni and members of the Gainesville community Friday night at the University of Florida’s centerpiece homecoming event, Gator Growl. ![]()
